Job Description

Lead and manage a team of aerial pole fielders

  • Teach and mentor team members 
  • Ensure each team member is collecting the required data
  • Set team schedules and collection targets
  • Identify problem areas in a route ahead of time to utilize team members and resources accordingly 
  • Report collection data, timelines, and estimates to engineers daily 

  Perform aerial pole fielding  

  • Collect all required data for utility pole loading and aerial permitting
  • Understand when to collect additional poles not listed on route (ex. Guying poles)
  • Be able to identify all types and sizes of cables on poles 
  • Be able to identify all equipment on poles 
  • Have a strong understanding of fiber optic aerial design
  • Have a strong understanding of utility pole design and applicable codes such as GO95 and NESC
  • Be able to research and apply any additional aerial codes per local jurisdiction requirements
  • Use verbal and written communication skills with homeowners / landowners to access poles within backyard pole easements or on private property
  • Utilize fielding software for data collection on a handheld device
  • Walk, stand, or climb on uneven terrain for extended periods of time in all weather conditions
  • Travel daily to jobsite if nearby
  • Stay in hotels for extended periods of time if work is far

Perform intrusive testing 

  • Identify when poles require intrusive testing from pole tags and computer resources
  • Perform intrusive testing with digital wood inspection drill
  • Interpret data from testing

Occasionally perform underground or OSP/ISP fiber fielding and job walks

  • Have a strong understanding of fiber optic utility design for OSP and ISP
  • Open fiber optic vaults / manholes for data collection
  • Collect any necessary data in an organized manor and relay back to engineers
  • Be able to provide route design analysis to engineers 
  • Properly represent the company on site walks with clients

Perform aerial design when not fielding  

  • Perform pole loading with Ocalc Pro
  • Produce make ready files
  • Produce reports, maps, drawings 
  • Produce any supplemental documentation required for permitting
  • Research pole data with online resources 
  • Read and interpret pole and utility maps

Additional work

  • Be willing to learn new programs/ skills / and jobs that may come up to perform when/ if fielding is unavailable

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED (Associate's or Bachelor's degree a plus).
  • Clean driving record 
  • Read, write clearly, and comprehend project scopes/details
  • Ability to walk, stand, climb, carry equipment, or sit for extended periods of time
  • Strong understanding of aerial utility poles, design, and construction methods

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of experience in aerial electrical engineering or construction / fiberoptic OSP engineering or construction
  • Strong understanding of GO95 and NESC
  • Proficient with Ocalc or Spida Calc
  • Proficient with fielding software such as Katapult
  • Contractors license
