Job Description

We are seeking a candidate with a strong understanding of relay protection schemes used in transmission system protection. The ideal candidate will also have experience reviewing relay and meter one-line diagrams, schematics, and construction drawings.

Responsibilities

• Development of Protective Relay Settings for microprocessor relays including: SEL, GE, ABB and others. For both transmission line relays (line differential, Step distance and Pilot Schemes) and Substation relays (Capacitor Banks, Transformers and Buses)
• Conduct short circuit analysis and relay coordination studies using Aspen OneLiner and/or PSS CAPE.
• Develop compliance tasks and methods to mitigate risks identified by Compliance department
• Develop/update/manage drawing management process and project drawings
• Review protection and SCADA system design and drawings, using CAD, Visio, Bluebeam, and other tools
• Coordinate and support evidence collection and technical reviews of engineering submittals, test records, SCADA configurations and other technical data sets
• Assist Engineers and Senior Engineers in:
• Developing relay system testing plans
• Troubleshooting system issues
• Performing root cause analyses
• Support the preparation of outage reports after relay operations and system disturbances by:
• Analyzing relay and DFR records
• Drafting test summaries and corrective action plans
• Perform preliminary engineering cost estimates to support feasibility studies and project planning
• Participate in departmental meetings and serve on committees as needed
• Provide regular updates to department leadership on project progress, including budget

Experience

• Capable of using Aspen OneLiner and/or Electrocon CAPE for coordination studies and fault study analysis.
• Preparation of protective relay coordination studies
• Experience with development of relay settings for microprocessor relays including: SEL, Alstom, GE, ABB and others. For both transmission line relays (Line Differential, Step Distance and Pilot Schemes) and substation relays (Capacitors, Transformers and buses)
• Being familiar with Schweitzer AcSELerator QuickSet, General Electric EnerVista and Schneider Electric MiCOM software is a plus.
• Strong engineering and interpersonal skills and high attention to detail with a passion for quality.
• Experience implementing control and protection schemes including interpreting schematics and wiring diagrams and preparing relay logic to complete the schemes.
• Ability to meet deadlines under pressure situations.
